“I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream,” and not just any ice cream, but Appalachian Apple Crumble and Land Grant Crunch, two flavors recently voted as most desired in an online poll held by the West Virginia University Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design.
After more than 150 votes were tallied, these two flavors tied for first, and they will serve as the Davis College’s signature desserts throughout its yearlong 150th anniversary celebration next year.
Last month, the Davis College invited alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends to vote online for one of three flavors: Appalachian Apple Crumble, an apple ice cream with caramel swirl and pie crust crumbles; Boot Tracks, a vanilla ice cream with crushed chocolate and cream-filled cookie crumbles and fudge swirl; and Land Grant Crunch, chocolate ice cream with toffee bar crunch. The College teamed up with Ellen Beal, owner of Ellen’s Homemade Ice Cream in Charleston, to churn the signature flavors which will be served at various anniversary events throughout the year.
“This has been a fun way to kick off a celebratory year that will mark a significant milestone in the life of the Davis College, the founding academic unit of the University,” said WVU Davis College Dean Daniel J. Robison. “I appreciate those who participated in the fun and hope that they – and many others – will continue to join with us as we take the time to celebrate in the coming year and reflect on our rich history and vibrant future of not only the Davis College, but West Virginia University.”
The campus community can get its first taste of the winning flavors during a special Davis College “Back-to-School Ice Cream Social” on January 24, 2017, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Agricultural Sciences Building on Evansdale Campus. All WVU students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend.
