Parkersburg native Miah Gathman will graduate in one week, move on to a dietetic internship and will be one step closer to fulfilling her ultimate dream.

Gathman's degree will be in human nutrition and foods with an area of emphasis in professional dietetics. She, along with her 13 senior classmates, applied to graduate dietetic internship programs and received a match, giving the program a 100% match rate for the third consecutive year. Gathman has chosen to further her education at the Davis College to complete a combined program: a master's degree and dietetic internship.

"The program will allow me to be eligible to take the registered dietitian exam," Gathman said. "I hope to become a registered dietitian and either specialize in renal or pediatrics. I also want to start my own nonprofit that helps tackle the pediatric obesity problem in the state of West Virginia."

Why did you choose to attend WVU Davis College?

I chose WVU Davis College because of the smaller class size and family-like program. I am very close to those in my major--both my classmates and professors.

What was your most valuable experience at Davis College?

My most valuable experience at Davis College was being an undergraduate teaching assistant for a human nutrition and foods course--the introductory nutrition course at WVU required for a vast number of students in exercise physiology, nursing and more. It has been really nice to impart my knowledge along with seeing students succeed in the course through extra study sessions and meetings.

What advice do you have for current Davis College students?

Say yes to the opportunities you are offered! You may never know what will come out of them: an internship, job or lifelong mentor.

What advice do you have for high school students?

The WVU Davis College is the best college on the Morgantown campus. It feels like family, and I see familiar faces every day.
