WVU alumnus establishes the Dr. Rustin M. Moore Veterinary Medical Educational Fund

WVU Davis College alumnus Rustin Moore, DVM Inspired by the exceptional undergraduate education he received at West Virginia University, alumnus Rustin Moore has established a scholarship fund that will help graduates of the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design transition to the next level of their academic careers.


Moore recently committed $25,000 to establish the Dr. Rustin M. Moore Veterinary Medical Education Fund to support pre-vet students who are West Virginia residents and have been accepted into the veterinary program at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

West Virginia University researchers are taking an innovative approach to develop a more sustainable and economical pest control solution.


Michael Gutensohn, assistant professor of horticulture and Ray Marsh and Arthur Pingree Dye Professor, and Yong-Lak Park, associate professor of entomology, are working to combat a critical issue concerning piercing-sucking pests that serve as carriers of plant diseases. Their efforts are being bolstered by a $150,000 grant from the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative Pest and Beneficial Species Program, administered by the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - With a rising interest in establishing agricultural enterprises on mined lands, West Virginia University and the West Virginia Coal Association are teaming up to share some profitable information with West Virginia landowners.

The two organizations will host a workshop, “Income Opportunities on Reclaimed Mine Lands in West Virginia,” at the Charleston Civic Center on Monday, Jan. 29, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service will provide the West Virginia University Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design with $750,000 over the next five years to support hiring a science advisor to assist the agency with addressing regional water quality concerns in the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

“A vibrant and healthy agricultural sector is one key to restoring and improving the Chesapeake Bay,” said Jason Hubbart, the Davis College associate dean for research and director of the WVU Institute of Water Security and Science.
