Sophia Scarfone is a junior from Westminster, Maryland, majoring in Wildlife and Fisheries Resources.
Read MoreAfter arriving at West Virginia University as an environmental engineering major, Scarfone discovered the Wildlife and Fisheries Resources major and quickly realized it was a better fit for her interests. She enjoys the hands-on nature of the major and the opportunities to participate in research, including projects involving turkey vocalizations, and soil and fungi analysis.
This past summer, Scarfone interned with the Escambia County Marine Resources Division in Florida, where she assisted with diamondback terrapin population surveys and outreach events. The internship allowed her to gain valuable field experience.
Outside of class, Scarfone enjoys hiking and taking advantage of the outdoors. She is also a member of WVU’s English Equestrian Team. Looking at the future ahead, she hopes to attend graduate school and eventually pursue a career as a wildlife biologist.
“I love the Davis College because it’s very hands-on and offers lots of research opportunities.”– Sophia Scarfone
