Balasko, John

Professor Emeritus of Agronomy

Dr. John Allan Balasko attended West Virginia University to obtain his B.S. in Agricultural Sciences and his M.S. in Agronomy. His Ph.D. in Agronomy with a minor in Biochemistry was earned at the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Balasko’s primary interests were in teaching and researching forage crops. He worked cooperatively with colleagues in the Northeast and North Central regions of the U.S. on breeding and management research to improve the yield, quality, and persistence of several forage species. In addition, Dr. Balasko conducted hybrid corn and alfalfa variety trials throughout the state. Prior to retiring in 2007, Dr. Balasko compiled an interactive 20-year database of West Virginia soil test results.
