Dr. Arne Arnberger is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Landscape Development, Recreation and Conservation Planning, Department of Spatial, Landscape and Infrastructural Sciences, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna, Austria (“BOKU”). He has been involved in several European Cost Actions dealings with outdoor recreation and is co-founder of the Conference on Monitoring and Management of Visitors in Recreational and Protected Areas (http://mmv.boku.ac.at/). He is Chair of the Austrian UNESCO Man & the Biosphere-committee, member of IUCN WCPA and IUCN TAPAS and involved in the Austrian communication platforms, “Forest & Human Health,” “Biodiversity and Human Health” and “Forest & Tourism”. He has led several visitor monitoring projects in protected areas such as the Danube Floodplains National Park, Bavarian Forest National Park, Sumava National Park, Eifel National Park and Gesäuse National Park. His current research activities focus on visitor monitoring, outdoor recreation, crowding, and effects of nature on human health and forest insect impacts on cultural ecosystem services. He has published more than 70 peer-reviewed publications and several books. He has participated in several student exchange programs, research projects and summer schools involving the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna and the West Virginia University.
