Adam Burda is a graduate of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he earned his B.S. degree in Food and Nutrition with a Dietetics track, along with a minor in Psychology. Adam was active within the University’s Student Dietetic Association as a Peer Mentor for undergraduate freshmen.
Burda’s optimistic attitude towards life comes from a tragic motorcycle accident that he was in on August 14, 2003. He was killed on impact, but brought back on the scene of the accident. He also had a laundry list of other injuries and lost the use of his dominant (right) arm. Adam has learned to appreciate each day, and live every day as if it were his last. Adam’s drive towards excellence, positive attitude toward his life and others, and his addictive personality, are a few attributes that make Burda someone who strives for excellence each day.
His experience in the field of Food and Nutrition include volunteer work with the Indiana County Community Action Program(PA); group speaking opportunities with Senior Friends(WV); organization involvement with Heifer International. Previous experiences includes clinical experience in acute care at Raleigh General Hospital (WV); working as a Nutrition Consultant with Appalachian Council Head Start (WV); working for Allegany Department of Health WIC (MD); clinical dietitian at Western Maryland Health System (MD); working as an adjunct assistant professor for Frostburg State University (MD); and starting Nutrition and Wellness Concepts, a small nutrition consulting business. Burda currently works for 2 textbook publishing companies and is a Teaching Assistant Professor at West Virginia University, where he teaches HNF 171 Intro to Nutrition, HNF 355 Nutritional Assessment, HNF 364 Nutritional Education and Counseling, HNF 105 Orientation and HNF 474 Medical Nutrition Therapy II.
Burda also serves as the Bylaws Chair for the West Virginia Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. He also keeps himself busy by serving as the Regional Director for area 5, for the Nutrition and Dietetic Educators and Preceptors (NDEP) council.
