If you weren't working at WVU, what's the most likely alternative?
I’d be using my degrees (BS and MS Horticulture) to grow cash crops!
Moment you knew what you wanted to do?
During my first travel season as a temporary employee in 2010, I traveled to some very rural counties in West Virginia. Meeting with high school students from all walks of life and encouraging them to step outside of their comfort zones and follow their dreams was very empowering.
Moment you knew you chose the right field?
I think the moment that stands out to me the most occurred a few years ago at a student forum with a former dean. Students were asked why they chose the major/path that they did and nearly half of the students said it was because of a conversation with me. I realized the impact that I can have on a student's future. That realization was both awesome and frightening!
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
I'm actually quite happy right where I am! We have four seasons of weather here - sometimes more! The mountains are beautiful, and the air and water are clean. I'd like to travel more, but I'd still live in West Virginia.
Favorite part of social distancing?
Efficiency! Productivity! I'm able to truly put new student customer service at the forefront. I've also enjoyed focusing on my health, making meals at home and spending more time with my kids.
Least favorite part of social distancing?
Maybe spending too much time with my kids!
