If you weren’t working at WVU, what’s the most likely alternative?

I work with Make-A-Wish and I volunteer for their Walk for Wishes, and I’ve also worked with them to grant a couple of wishes here in North Central West Virginia, so I would be doing something in the nonprofit field that benefits the residents of the state.

What's the most interesting aspect of your job?

The most interesting thing for me is that it’s different every day. We work with faculty from across campus, so every project is different. I’m constantly learning new things about the research that’s being done at the university, the people that are working at the university and with the university.

What's the most interesting research you've seen?

I can’t say I’m really a fan of some of the waste water projects because it’s just gross to me! But it’s new and different!

Favorite part of social distancing:

It’s forced us to connect with people and to learn and discover ways to connect with people remotely. I’ve been able to connect with friends and family electronically. We’ve done Zoom bingo; we’ve done Zoom happy hour; we’ve done Zoom games. I’m an introvert, but I still hate it [social distancing]. I’d rather be on the job and see people.

Least favorite part of social distancing:

Definitely the separation from people. I never thought that I would say that as an introvert because I’m fine being alone. I hate that I can’t just go see my dad or see family members. I just hate the separation from people, family and friends.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

I don’t know. I love Maine, but it gets cold. I love the beach, but it gets hot. So I don’t know - in an RV and moving around. But an RV is too small, and I can’t drive one. I would be a nomad.
